Is it safe to travel to Baños de Agua Santa?
In June 2024, Ecuador was hit by heavy rains that caused damage in various regions of the country. This event did not affect the city center of Baños de Agua Santa. The hamlet of Quilloturo, located 15 kilometers from Baños, was the hardest hit, where landslides caused significant losses. Unfortunately, these natural events resulted in 14 fatalities and approximately 300 people affected. Additionally, the roads connecting Baños to Puyo were temporarily closed, isolating several communities and causing difficulties in mobility.
In the face of this emergency, the Ecuadorian government and civil society mobilized in a show of solidarity to provide assistance to those affected. Rescue teams, emergency crews, and volunteers worked tirelessly in search and rescue efforts, as well as in the delivery of humanitarian aid. The solidarity of the Ecuadorian people was once again evident, demonstrating that in times of crisis, unity is strength.
Thanks to the joint efforts of authorities, organizations, and the community, Baños de Agua Santa and its surroundings have recovered significantly from the damage caused by the rains.
